John C. Meyer (b. Apr. 3, 1919, Brooklyn, N.Y.-d. Dec. 2, 1975), U.S. Air Force officer, received his commission and pilot wings in 1940 after graduating from college. During World War II, he was assigned to the 8th Air Force in England and commanded the 487th Fighter Squadron. John Dale Ryan (1915-1983) was the Seventh Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force. He was born in Cherokee, Iowa, where he graduated from Cherokee Junior College before entering the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
